Alumni Spotlight: Sue Worsnup

“I have had a very satisfying and busy teaching career. I enjoy being with people, helping, learning and sharing together. Teaching is a profession that enabled me to do this to the full.”

Meet Sue Worsnup, Lower School Tech Coach, retiring this year after working at ISA for 39 years.

How did your time at ISA impact your life?

I have had a very satisfying and busy teaching career. I enjoy being with people, helping, learning and sharing together. Teaching is a profession that enabled me to do this to the full.

What are some of your most memorable moments at ISA?

I enjoyed being a PK to Grade 12  PE teacher for the first 13 years I was at ISA. I really wanted each student to enjoy movement and then hopefully get themselves involved in sports/movement activities outside school and in the following years. There is so much variety in sports activities that I hope that they all have found a sport(s)  to pursue as they go through life.

Since 2001, I have been a Tech Integrator/Coach in Lower School. I worked initially with students from PS-Grade 5, and in the last 15 years, I have focused on Grades 3-5. I really enjoyed being with the students and working together with the teachers, implementing IT in an authentic manner in the classrooms.

Another thread that has played a large part of my time at ISA has been the Tanzania Project. I was the coordinator on 13 of the 14 trips I went on.  At the end of the school year a small group of female teachers and students (from Grades 10-12) ran a 19-day programme for a group of around 85 students from form 1 at the MaaSAE Girls Lutheran Secondary School in Monduli. The sharing, learning and being together was very special for both the MGLSS  and ISA groups. I have so many treasured memories from the time spent there – thank you to all involved.

What is your current career, and why did you choose that path? What advice do you have for others looking to enter your field of work?

Teaching often demands a lot of time but is a very fulfilling and rewarding career. There are many challenges and opportunities, but you can make a positive difference!

What advice or insights do you have for our current ISA students?

Life gives you many opportunities. Remain open to challenges and new experiences and embrace the changes.

The ISA Alumni Spotlight series aims to showcase the journeys of individuals in our student, teacher and parent alumni communities. We ask them to reflect on how ISA made an impact on their life, and to share their advice on how to carry the mission of international understanding.
