Lower School Students Celebrate Festival of Lights

The lights were switched out in the ISA Main Foyer last Friday in preparation for the annual Festival of Lights celebration. Every year, Lower School students attend presentations held by a variety of PTA national communities to learn more about how each culture celebrates light during the darkest time of the year.

With the Foyer and Theatre dark, each community beautifully decorated their stand with lights, creating light-filled, glowing, immersive presentations. Parent volunteers guided students through how different cultures, religions, and belief systems traditionally use light in response to the darkness of the winter months and to mark the winter solstice.

Students had the opportunity to make connections across cultures as they visited the variety of displays on offer, contributing to ISA’s mission of educating for international understanding.

Thank you to the PTA and all parent volunteers who helped to make this year’s Festival of Lights celebration a valuable and engaging learning experience for our students.
