Celebrating the Class of 2026: Graduation at Theater Amsterdam
On 6 June, the ISA community gathered at Theater Amsterdam to celebrate the Class of 2026, which was the first time the event has been hosted at this venue. Student speaker Mirgali Akhmetov framed the day by noting that the “climb” and the journey itself were the true achievements, rather than just the finish line.
The Class of 2026 marked ISA’s 49th graduating class, featuring 109 seniors representing 34 different nationalities. In keeping with ISA’s international spirit, students wore formal attire or traditional graduation gowns in ISA burgundy that reflected their unique national or cultural identities.
The ceremony opened with welcoming remarks from Director Dr. Bernadette P. Carmody, followed by an address from the Head of Upper School, Ruth Clarke. Faculty speaker Jennifer Motre encouraged graduates to prioritise curiosity and engagement, suggesting that passion often emerges from the experience of doing rather than the pressure to find a single path.
The event featured three musical performances: the ISA band Locker 47, featuring Ethan Chassin, Jacky Zhang, Mirgali Akhmetov, Luca Vega, Felix Martinez Vlek, and Phearoun Chaillou, performed ‘With or Without You’ by U2; Jaroslav Lemmens provided a piano performance via a special recording; and Bridget Hoey joined Lorca Fagan for a vocal rendition of ‘When We Were Young’. Following these performances, students crossed the stage to receive their ISA High School Diplomas from Dr. Carmody and Supervisory Board Chair Dr. Ton van Nimwegen, marking the completion of their journey at ISA.
In keeping with tradition, achievement awards were presented. These are awarded to students in recognition of personal, academic, and ethical excellence, and faculty members vote to decide who should receive each award. Please see below a list of the awards and their recipients
