The International School of Amsterdam is currently involved in an aid programme in Monduli, Tanzania where a school has been built for girls of the Maasai tribe. This school, the Maasae Girls Lutheran Secondary School, the first of its kind, opened in 1995 following many years of negotiations. Traditionally Maasai girls have at the most received only a very basic elementary education and the school offers the opportunity for girls to have a secondary education.

The project has expanded and developed since ISA first became involved in 1995. One of the main goals behind the project is the preparing and running of an 18 day summer programme at the Maasae Girls School run by staff and students from ISA. The project provides the opportunity for a truly meaningful cultural exchange for all those involved. Click here for details about the summer programme.

Fundraising for the project goes on throughout the year. The money raised buys the supplies for the running of the programme, taking the MGLSS students on two field trips as well as for extra resources to assist the school throughout the year. A considerable donation has also been made to the school each year and this has been used depending on the needs of the school at that moment. A group of parent volunteers have fund-raised for the project throughout the years and this along with a considerable donation from the PTA has provided the financial support for the project.
