The International School of Amsterdam exists primarily to serve the educational needs of the international community. In general, admission is open to all students who can profit from a challenging, international, university preparatory, English language education.
The following admission requirements and grade placements are adhered to. Exceptions to these age guidelines are made infrequently and only upon careful evaluation of (and an interview if necessary with) the applicant by the Head of School.
- Nursery students must be three years of age on entry and be toilet-trained.
-
Preschool students must be three years of age by the 31st of August and must be toilet trained.
-
Prekindergarten students must be four years of age by the 31st of August.
- Kindergarten students must be five years of age by the 31st of August.
-
Grade 1 students must be six years of age by the 31st of August.
-
Grades 2 through 12 students are placed in a grade compatible with their age on evidence of successful completion of the preceding grade or year.
Admission can be offered to students with mild/moderate educational difficulties or physical disabilities according to the limited facilities and personnel available. Initial screening, in-class and group support is provided through the Student Support Department. Individualized and specialist support in the areas of Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Psychotherapy, and academic tutoring is coordinated by the school but paid for privately by the individual families.
The school's Student Study Teams, composed of the Lower, Upper School Heads, Student Support Coordinator, Guidance Counselor and School Nurse, meet regularly to discuss and review referrals and support strategies for students with Special Needs. |
